January is a tough month for the Nelsons. Always. There are the usual reasons…We’re broke. It’s cold. Blah blah blah.
The car always seems to break down in the early part of the year. I don’t know why we were surprised yesterday morning when it took 5 tries to get it started before church. It finally did, but the “check engine” light is on and White Betty has a definite hitch in her get-along. Off she goes to the mechanic for a diagnostic today… then we’ll know how much money we need to come up with and I will make plans to sell my body on the street. Or something :)
The furnace is working hard to keep us cozy and I love it for that. I don’t love the static electricity that has taken over every piece of fabric and head of hair in the house. Our bedding actually crackles blue sparks in the dark- it’s cool and annoying at the same time. The trusty humidifier has been pressed in to service 24 hours a day to hopefully eliminate some of this rampant electrical activity.
This PISTACHIO CAKE from Pioneer Woman’s Tasty Kitchen looked so delicious that I tried to make it for Sunday Dinner Dessert.
Did you catch the “tried”?
Dismal cake failure.
I’m trying again next week with a bigger bundt pan. I can tell you that the raw batter was real tasty.
And, to take the Debbie Downer edge off this morose Monday morning post… here’s a video that I happened upon. Quite possibly the sweetest thing I’ve seen… reminds me of singing with my Grandpa when I was little, except he played the ukelele.
